Kids' pants are probably one of the most worn pieces in any child's wardrobe. They need to keep up with active play, feel comfortable to wear, and still look great for special occasions. That's exactly what inspired me to create Luoto. I wanted to design a pants pattern that is as versatile as it is practical and timeless.
Luoto is a kids' pants pattern in sizes 92–164 cm. With the same pattern, you can sew both shorts and full-length pants, making it a great choice all year round. The comfortable elastic waistband and relaxed fit make these pants easy to wear day after day.
The look of Luoto changes surprisingly much depending on the fabric you choose. Sew them in linen for versatile pants that work just as well for everyday wear as for special occasions. Viscose creates light and airy pants for warm summer days, double gauze makes wonderfully soft lounge pants, corduroy is perfect for autumn, and flannel makes cosy pyjama pants. And when summer arrives, simply sew the shorts version.
The pattern includes curved front pockets, patch pockets on the legs, and back pockets. Choose your favourites, mix and match different options, or add them all. Small details can completely change the look of the finished pants.
Luoto pairs perfectly with the Tovi and Aalto shirts. With these patterns, it's easy to sew matching outfits that are perfect for everyday wear, playtime, and special occasions.
Although Luoto includes a few more sewing steps than the simplest beginner projects, the clear step-by-step photo instructions will guide you through the entire process. If you'd like to learn new sewing techniques and sew a pair of pants with pockets, Luoto is a great project.
