Introducing the Helmi Culottes Sewing Pattern

If I had to choose just one pair of summer trousers for a child, Helmi would be a strong contender.

Helmi is a relaxed culottes-style trouser pattern with cropped wide legs that fall to approximately mid-calf. The fit is airy, comfortable, and moves beautifully with the wearer. You can add practical side seam pockets if you like, or leave them out for an even quicker and simpler sewing project.

The Helmi pattern is available in sizes 74–164 cm and is designed for woven fabrics. My personal favourite is viscose, but double gauze works beautifully as well. The fabric you choose has a big impact on the final look and feel of the trousers.

One of Helmi's best features is its simplicity. There are no zippers, buttons, or other complicated construction steps. The waist is finished with elastic, making Helmi a great first trouser project or an excellent introduction to sewing with woven fabrics.

The detailed, photo-based sewing instructions will guide you through every step, making the pattern approachable even if garment sewing is still new to you.

Helmi pairs easily with a wide variety of tops, and the same pattern can be used to create both casual everyday trousers and a more polished version. It's the kind of garment that you'll reach for again and again.

I hope Helmi becomes a favourite in your wardrobe too.

Happy sewing!
